Eureka Kohana 4 Person Tent

With a full fly, aluminum poles, and two vestibules, the Eureka Kohana 4 Person Tent is a weatherproof shelter that offers protection from all the elements even during harsh weather.

Comfort and Space

The Eureka Kohana 4-Person Tent is a great choice for those who want both comfort and space. With a floor size of 8 feet x 7 feet 6 inches (2.4 x 2.3 m) and a floor space of 60 square feet / 5.6 square meters, it can easily accommodate four people which is what it’s supposed to.

In contrast, many other tents that state “4-person” actually mean “four is going to be a squeeze but you can do it!”

And at a peak height of 56 in /142 cm, there’s plenty of room to move around, albeit in a bit of a crouch. There’s quite a bit of shoulder room even with four people in the tent to move around or huddle up in inclement weather with a pack of cards.

This tent is also easy to set up and take down; all you need to do is follow the instructions included with the tent.

Breathability and Ventilation

It can be difficult to ventilate and reduce condensation with such a full-coverage fly. However, the canopy is very meshy to promote air circulation. In addition, the Eureka Kohana 4 person tent has several vents and the vestibule door can be rolled up for maximum circulation, while still allowing protection from the rain.

Vestibules are on both sides of the tent at both of the D-shaped doors. The inside walls of the tent are mostly mesh, and the large rainfly goes almost to the ground. While a portion of the fly appears to have classic vents on two sides, you might want to leave the fly off on stuffy nights!

As another feature, the tent incorporates what is called high/low vents on the vestibule flaps, which provide extra airflow when the flap is unzipped from the ground. The hot air rises and escapes through the vents, while the cool air enters from the ground through any gaps or open doors.

Weather Resistance

The Eureka Kohana 4 person tent holds up incredibly well in bad weather. Besides being extremely waterproof, the fly also provides full coverage for both you and your gear.

The aluminum poles hold up well in stronger winds and the dome-shaped, relatively slow profile of the tent makes it aerodynamic enough to withstand storms.

Durability

Each vestibule has two main poles and two shorter cross poles that support the fly.

There are four aluminum poles, each 9.5 mm in diameter, and grommets at each corner that are used to attach poles, clips to hold the poles in place, and Velcro tabs to attach them to the tent.

75-denier 190T polyester is used for the canopy, as well as 40D polyester. The fly fabric is coated with PU, providing a rating of 3000 millimeters of waterproof protection.

Approximately 2500 mm of waterproofness is provided by the 150D polyester floor with PU coating. Looking at the materials used for the body, fly, and floor, the Eureka Kohana 4 person tent will hold up to many nights of bad weather!

Ease of Use

The Eureka Kohana 4 person tent uses an external frame, which is easy to pitch and keeps the inner tent dry. The frame is made of aluminum, which is lightweight and durable.

The tent body is made of ripstop nylon, which is waterproof, and the floor is a thick, 150-denier polyester floor with PU coating, which is also waterproof. The Eureka Kohana tent is easy to set up, even for beginners.

Here’s how to set up The Eureka Kohana 4 tent:

  1. Unpack the package. There should be two fly rods, the rainfly, two main frame poles, tent body, stakes, and guylines.
  2. Lay out the tent and find the four corner webbings.
  3. Assemble the two main frame poles. These are the longer poles.
  4. Place the poles on top of the tent body in an X.
  5. Insert the poles into grommets.
  6. Stand the frame up, and attach the frame with the pole clips.
  7. Stake down the four corners.
  8. Now for the fly. Unroll the fly and flip it upside down.
  9. Find the four flyrod pockets.
  10. Insert the tips of the fly rods into the pockets.
  11. Make sure the fly poles run parallel and not crossed.
  12. Match each webbing on the fly with the colors on the tent.
  13. Wrap the pieces of velcro on the underside of the fly to the tent frame.
  14. Now that the fly is on, secure the buckles onto the stakes.
  15. Then stake out the front and rear vestibule and then the guylines.

That’s it! Your Eureka Kohana 4 person tent is now ready for use.

Packed Size and Weight

The Eureka Kohana 4-Person Tent has a packed size of 24 x 8 inches (61 x 20 cm), and it weighs 9 lb 3 oz (4.17 kg). The packed size is smaller than the average 4-person tent, and the weight is also on the lower end compared to other 4-person tents like the Jade Canyon X (18lbs) or the Tetragon NX (11lbs 15oz).

While this tent is marketed as a car camping tent, you can even transport it on a bike because of how small it is and lightweight it is. The tent is also easy to set up and take down, making it a good option for camping trips or short hikes.

It is a surprisingly light 4-person tent that’s available at a reasonable price. Although you might not take it for long hikes into the backcountry, overall it is a good choice for casual campers who are looking for a lightweight and easy-to-transport tent.
